For example, it is a type of production machine tool, which is used to remove and remove metals from a work piece.

It also helps in performing many secondary operations.

Lathe Machine Parts? We all understand this.

There are many parts of a lathe machine such as head stock, bed, tail stock, carriage, tool post, lead screw, chuck, leg, etc. All these are parts of lathe machine.

At the same time, we will understand that where is the lathe machine used?

Lathe machines are used to perform many operations, such as facing, turning, chamfering, boring, threading, drilling, etc. All the operations are performed on the lathe machine.

What is s lathe machine?

If understood in simple language, we can say that lathe machine is a type of machine tool or it can be said that production is machine tool, which is used to remove and remove metals from work piece. and provides a desired shape or size to the work piece.

This tool is used for metal removing process. Many types of secondary operations are performed on the work piece with the lathe machine.

The main function of a lathe machine is to remove metal from the top of the work piece. Metal removal or metal removing is a type of secondary operation. Many types of secondary operations are done with lathe machine, so this machine is considered very useful in industries. And this machine removes the metals like chips from the top of the work piece.

The lathe machine is an ancient machine tool. Which is being used in industries for a long time.

The lathe machine is a very versatile machine tool, compared to all other standard machine tools.

The lathe machine is usually operated or operated manually.

lathe machine parts

Now we will understand how many parts are there in the lathe machine and what is the function of all these parts, how do they all work. There are many parts of a lathe machine, all those parts are as follows.

  • Head stock
  • Bed
  • Tail stock
  • Carriage
  • Saddle
  • Cross – slide
  • Compound rest
  • Tool post
  • Apron
  • Lead screw
  • Feed rod
  • Chuck
  • Main spindle
  • Leg

Now we will understand all the parts of lathe machine in detail. First of all we understand Head stock in lathe machine

  • Head stock – The head stock is located on the left side of the lathe bed. And it holds the gear train, main spindle, chuck, gear speed control levers as well as feed controllers. The head stock transmits power from the spindle to the feed rod, lead screw and thread cutting mechanism. The head stock is made of cast iron.

  • Bed – The bed is the base of the lathe machine and is made of single piece cast iron. All parts of the lathe machine are bolted to the bed. Guideways are mounted on the bed and as the name suggests it guides the tail stock and carriage.

  • Tail stock – The tail stock is located on the right hand side of the lathe machine. Tail stock is used to support the work piece and it supports the work piece from one end i.e. from the right end.

  • Carriage – The carriage is placed between the head stock and the tail stock. And it carries apron, saddle, compound rest, cross slide and tool post.

  • Saddle – Saddle is a part of the carriage. And he slides on the side of the bed. It also supports cross slide, compound test and tool.

  • Cross – slide (Cross slide) – The function of cross slide is to provide cutting action to the tool. The action of the cutting tool is perpendicular to the center line of the lathe machine.

  • Compound rest – The compound rest rests on top of the cross slide. And its base is circular, from which it provides swiveling motion.

  • Tool post – This is the top part of the carriage and it serves to hold the tool and the tool holder in one place or in one position.

  • Apron – Apron is the house of feed mechanism. The apron wheel can also be rotated by hand, for longitudinal motion of the carriage.

  • Lead screw – Lead screw is also called power screw and it converts rotational motion into linear motion. Lead screws are also used for thread cutting operations in lathe machine tools.

  • Feed rod: – The feed rod works to move the carriage like the feed rod moves the carriage from left to right and at the same time it also moves from right to left.

  • Chuck – The chuck is used to hold the work piece securely.

Generally, there are two types of chucks like –

  1. The first is the 3 – jaw self – centering chuck.
  2. The second is the 4-jaw independent chuck.

  • Main spindle – The spindle is in the form of a hollow cylindrical shaft from which long jobs can also be passed. It is designed in such a way that the thrust of the cutting tool does not allow the spindle to deflect.
  • Leg – The leg has a very important function in the lathe machine. This lathe carries the entire load of the machine on itself and then works to deliver this load to the ground. The leg is secured with the floor with the help of bolts.

lathe machine uses

Lathe machines are used to perform many operations. Usually secondary operations are done with a lathe machine. All these operations which are performed on a lathe machine are as follows –
